Life Together

My favorite preposition is "with." The things I love most about life are done “with.”  The best experiences are "with" my family. Many friends come to mind too, friends I enjoy being with. With is implied in the title of this article too, Life Together. I don't mind spending a day, or maybe two, alone but soon that grows stale and I need to find someone to b

e with. I'll reach out to a friend, maybe someone reading this article, and ask about getting coffee or lunch with the goal of catching up and enjoying some conversation with them.

That’s the reason for this blog, to talk about things that I find interesting and enjoyable and to invite you to be with me in this life together.

Life Together is not just the title of this article, it also the title of this website and blog.  And, as the subtitle suggests, I’ll give myself plenty of room to reflect on a variety of topics about life, leadership, faith and creativity, all in the context of community.

You’ll notice a page about books I’m reading. Spending time with a great book seems like a solitary experience but when you read together, or at least share some of the experience with others, it becomes a conversation. The first book I’m sharing is one with the same title, “Life Together.”  It’s by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and was something of a manual for the Christian community living underground in Germany during WWII.  Being together was not only important, it was dangerous. Bonhoeffer’s counsel provided support and encouragement for pastors and parishioners as they attempted to live faithfully under a regime that wanted the church to serve its purposes rather than those of Jesus.

I’m also including a page about my work as a coach, helping people develop their leadership skills, improve the way they communicate, find meaningful careers, and generally pursue goals that are important to them.  Coaching people through life transitions and personal development is a fulfilling way to be “with” them.  It’s something that grew out of my life in ministry and has proven to be a way to continue walking alongside people as move thoughtfully toward an even more meaningful life.

As you may notice, this website will be part blog, part journal, and always an invitation to conversation and community.  I know I’ll enjoy it and hope you do too.

In the spirit of “with,” I’d love to hear from you.  I much prefer conversation to broadcasting or a monologue. I’d love for you to comment, ask a question, or raise some perspective I haven’t thought of. And, of course, I’m up for coffee or lunch too if we can make that happen!

Thanks for reading.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, or experiences in the comment section below.
